Also called the New Lunar “Hijri” Year, the “Islamic New Year” follows the sighting of the crescent moon. The New Year is a solemn day dedicated to prayingand reflecting on the past in preparation for the days to come.
Following the Solar Hijri calendar, the "Nowruz" festival takes place on the Spring equinox. It's a “new day,” customs include cleaning, shopping, visiting family and friends, and appreciating nature. The seven “Haft-sin” items are Sabze, Samanu, Persian olives, vinegar, apples, garlic, and Sumac.
